EIT offering online engineering short courses and qualifications for career advancement

EIT’s Dean of Engineering, Dr Steve Mackay, EIT’s Academic Public Affairs Manager, Edwina Ross and EIT’s Marketing and Business Manager, Caroline Mackay interviewed by Engineering News & Mining Weekly's Martin Creamer. Camerawork & Editing: Shadwyn Dickinson.
The innovative online learning platform and course structure, offered by the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT), affords individuals the opportunity of working in engineering while completing short courses, technical vocational qualifications and degrees.
Most of EIT’s students in 160 countries around the world are working “and doing incredible things in their jobs, while studying”, says EIT’s Dean, Dr Steve Mackay.
EIT’s platform includes remote labs which are unique. Students from around the world can log in to access software tools and simulations and run experiments on real equipment, online.
EIT also puts a strong focus on connecting and engaging online students to their instructors and lecturers in real time, through web and video conferencing. And EIT’s Learning Support Officers are humans, not AI tools; they nurture and guide students throughout their studies.
For EIT’s online students, EIT aims to increase its presence through learning hubs. To date these centres have been opened in South Africa, Botswana and in England. There are also three campuses in Australia.
For all students, an easy, nimble invigilation package - running on their computers and phones - ensures that everything they do is authentic.
